We’re doing similar with our yard, in that we’re working towards a healthier, more robust soil that supports more native flora and fauna. To start with, we mow less so the various flowers can bloom (pulling ox-eye daisies, leaving dandelion and cat’s ear and clover for now), and in some parts we stopped mowing to see what comes up. We’ll do some test-plots with cardboard or burning or weeding by hand, and maybe paint on cut stems of tenacious plants some glyphosate. It’ll be a rest-of-life and maybe generational project.
If an introduced plant is not aggressive (daisies are aggressive, for one) it’s low-priority. Ideally the plants that have been in this region for a long time will take over with just enough help.
The public library has been really helpful with reference material.
