Thanks for the reply, but I was thinking that the developers would be making direct API calls to endpoints that I will publish. There'll be adequate documentation of course, so I guess my question boils down to which protocol easier to adopt by developers.

Think about your market, talk to your would-be users, and look at your competition. Without much in the way of detail nobody can tell you much. It may be that the particular area you are working in is more used to working with REST and therefore you would reduce adaptation barrier by also choosing REST.
