Ask HN: Which browser do you use and why?
Just thought it'd be interesting to listen to others' opinions on browsers. My personal setup is Vivaldi for Articles, Wikipedia, any studies, and Brave for just browsing/doing anything else.
- Jaxtek 5y agoFirefox developer edition for everything.
- theiasson 5y agoqutebrowser most of the time, firefox when qutebrowser fails.
- 97-109-107 5y agoditto
- jamesponddotco 5y agoqutebrowser[1], with these settings[2]. It fits my desktop environment perfectly, as I use a tiling window manager and live in the terminal. I may switch back to Firefox, which is what I use for development, if I ever find the time to customize Firefox to look and feel more like qutebrowser. - onion2k 5y agoAll of them, because I'm a frontend engineer who has to test stuff. :)
- 1vuio0pswjnm7 5y agolinks with some personal customisations, no graphics
- luke2m 5y agoVivaldi for school, Chrome for google stuff, and Firefox for everything else.
- cpach 5y agoMostly Google Chrome. It’s fast and I trust their security team, which have a very good reputation.
- muffa 5y agoFirefox, easy to use and modern. I started using it because I found it hard(Impossible?) to install uBlock on my phone, tried Firefox out and it was super easy to install uBlock that is was forced me to change.
- toomanyducks 5y agofirefox, because userchrome modifications can be pretty. i have no other justification for my choices.
- approxim8ion 5y agoFirefox. Never needed anything else, and few browsers allow me to customize or harden them as much as FF does. I also use Chrome for testing my apps at work though.
- mikewarot 5y agoChrome, it just works for the most part. AdBlockPlus to keep the ads and spam to a low roar. I have no smartphone, nor table to worry about.
- hidden-spyder 5y agoYou should consider replacing ABP with uBlock Origin. It's great!
- mikewarot 5y agoI'll keep that in mind if ABP ever does something stupid, thanks! Until them, I've learned not to change anything unless there is a very strong reason. It radically cuts down on the amount of confusing surprises. When I was an IT Administrator, we had Office 2000, and never upgraded, except for the odd plugin to be Office 2007 compatible. Nobody needed training, everything worked as expected. Sure, nobody knew the new flowy ribbon GUI, but nobody cared because they were getting stuff done, and moving on with their life. I had done my job and successfully absorbed as much uncertainty from their computer use as possible.
- errantmind 5y agoUngoogled Chromium and Firefox with privacy tweaks I prefer Ungoogled Chromium for most tasks but have a lot of legacy stuff in Firefox I go back for from time to time.
- tomjen3 5y agoFirefox because it runs ublock origin and containers.
- jfoucher 5y agoFirefox nightly, chromium for the rare sites that need it. I really couldn’t live without containers and afaik only Firefox has them.
- mkbkn 5y agoFirefox. Privacy & f*ck Google.
- cosmodisk 5y agoI use Chrome. I used to use Opera, until it started showing some websites in a funny way, then used Mozilla, which used as much RAM, as an entire data centre, so eventually I switched to Chrome. It's not ideal, but at least the interface is better than its competitor'. On my phone I use Brave, tried it and quite liked it,so I stuck with it.
- andreacavagna 5y agoi'm the only one that is using Brave? Privacy and getting paid for all the ads you want to see in crypto, to me haas been a game-changer. https://brave.com/ https://brave.com/
- reducesuffering 5y agoHow much $ in BAT are you making a month?
- maverick74 5y agoWhy, Firefox of course!!! It's the only real option if you do value privacy
- pedrodelfino 5y ago6 weeks ago I have started using the Nyxt Browser and I am really loving it! I even did a video about why Nyxt is so cool last week. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yBjfjFE0fk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yBjfjFE0fk
