I've always taken some umbrage with the "truth-o-meter" on PolitiFact. Even "walked back" is a bad option in this case. The options on the meter are:
- True
- Mostly True
- Half True
- Mostly False
- False
- Pants on Fire
There seems to be an incredibly glaring omission on that list: "Not enough information yet collected". I'm aware that's maybe a nitpick or an annoying observation... But _not knowing_ is a vital, vital skill and the basis of the modern world. I find it strange that the "willingness to not know" is a fairly under-discussed topic. The 'truth' is that -we don't know- if COVID came from a lab. That's OKAY, and we can behave properly if we choose to not know what we cannot know.

- sharperguy 5y agoHow can a hypothesis be a lie at all? A hypothesis is either worth investigating or not worth investigating. By the very nature of hypothesis, we don't know if they will eventually turn out to be proven correct or incorrect.
