I recently had a nearly 20 year old car as my daily driver (I was original owner). Was very sad to have to let it go.
However it was a car designed and built in the days when cars were still largely analog. No infotainment, no fancy technological wizardry governing the power delivery or handling.
Nowadays many cars have gizmos and gadgets up the wazoo. Even if the base mechanical bits continue to work, wouldn't a lot of the fancy features become akin to Stone Age technology? That infotainment system that is awesome in 2021 isn't going to be so hot in 2026 let alone 2031.

- cillian64 5y agoIf cars would just use standard DIN entertainment systems then upgrading that part every few years would be cheap and trivial. But I expect car manufacturers would rather people buy a new car when they want the new shiny infotainment.
- decafninja 5y agoI think design plays a part too. They want something that looks well integrated into the interior design language.
