I imagine the project would be broken into hardware challenges (mechatronics, electronics, and manufacturing) and software (AI, programmability). Most likely because everything you could need in the software world is free (eg Tensorflow, CUDA, etc). Everything to do with hardware is very expensive (Altium, Proteus, Simulink, any sort of CNC control).
