Glass molded like plastic could usher in new era of complex glass shapes
- ggm 5y agoPEG being polyethylene glycol, also in... mRNA vaccines. The real story here might be the application of chemistry to basic industrial processes we tend to think of exclusively as mechanical. Glass has been extrusion moulded for centuries. What's novel here is sintering and removal of the solvent/carrier. (Which they also say has to be done slowly right now, so the process needs some work yet to scale in volume) Sintered metal mouldings took a few years to become more mainstream eg on aerospace applications.
