Seems weird to single Amazon out, since they are far from unique in their approach. The most interesting anecdote was the one about an Apple Sony collaboration, in which Apple wanted to do their usual careful design, and Sony said that was a waste of time, just throw a bunch of products into the market, see what works, and iterate. Seems clear now which companies approach works best for consumer electronics. Although I’m not sure there are many other companies that follow Apple’s approach.

During that period, I wondered why Amazon was not the focus since Amazon seemed to be doing the same things that Walmart was being accused of doing. Media focus comes in waves. In a couple of years we'll see Walmart or an other big company in the hot seat again. These companies know that for the most part they just have to say sorry that YOU feel bad for what they are doing (basically they feel bad that you feel bad), act like they are changing, and lay low until the attention passes. For the most part nothing will change unless they see it impacting their earnings then it becomes an emergency and they have to do something about it.
