Several years ago when I had to build a custom package manager/build tool to solve this use case, I wish I could've just scoffed :)

  None of the packages I use under Linux require Conda. Is this Jupyter-related, one wonders?

    It wasn't Jupyter related, but I can't remember which specific packages it was. It was quite a few years ago
