I don't think we will ever see Xcode for iPad, IMO this is another step in getting rid of both Xcode and objective-c. The last 4 years Apple has been releasing more Swift only frameworks.Sooner or later I expect Playground's to morph in SwiftCode and end up on the Mac too.
- nexuist 5y agoI wouldn't mind. Xcode has an insane amount of cruft built up over the years and maybe 10% of its functionality is used by 90% of developers. I think starting over with something that only caters to Swift + SwiftUI development would be a good investment. Xcode can still stay around, but the new thing should evolve to fit enough workflows such that you shouldn't have to download it anymore. I don't hate Objective C as much as others, but its time is clearly over and Apple should embrace the future it is building for itself.
