I changed the headline slightly because it was too many characters and because the word mysterious is a little clickbaity. People think the disease might be spreading through the brood x cicadas, but they still aren't sure of the cause. People in the affected areas are being encouraged to put away their bird feeders and bird baths to encourage the birds to avoid each other.
