That's interesting, actually - I got an offer from a hedge fund that way too (non-Leetcode, UI domain specific questions). The problem is they pay commensurate with the difficulty of the interview it seems - about half of what the other engineers make.
Your SRE/ProdEng advice is good for the record, I've considered going down that path.
