Is the grill going to disappear in favour of electrification?
- simonblack 5y agoThe grill(e) does more than cool an internal-combustion engine. It also acts as a source of (relatively) cleean, cool air for ventilation and other purposes. Electric cars also consume energy, and that energy consumption is not 100% efficient, so once more, cooling is required to dissipate much of that heat production due to inefficiency. The grill(e) is here to stay. It may not be as prominent, but there will always need to be one. It's pointless showing us ICE and electric versions of the same model car showing practically no difference in the grilles. That's because the economies of scale are not there yet, so it's easier to slightly change an existing mass-produced body-shape rather than produce a completely different body-shape for so few electric vehicles (relatively speaking).
- trizoza 5y agoI agree with your first 3 points, very good ones. But I disagree with it being pointless, why not run the survey and see what people actually feel about it. My guess is, it will end up victorious for most ICE cars, but there might be some that took the right approach in their redesign and could prove as the right step.
