Yup, that exact thing happened with my product. I told myself "I'm just going to create a small marketing site, sell it and see what happens." I launched it, got a few sales, and then started to think "well, if I add this feature to the site, maybe I can increase sales, or I need these blog posts, or I need to A/B test this button, etc..." and before you know it, it's not passive.
