“Capitalism was punishable by death” – Balaji Srinivasan talks Crypto
- jollybean 5y agoFrom a Tweet: "How to start a new city - Build a community in the cloud - Organize economy around remote work - Enforce laws with smart contracts - Practice in-person norms of civility - Simulate architecture in VR - Eventually, crowdfund territory - And materialize city into the real world" This is excessively naive, almost infantile dystopianism - it's science fiction. Have adults lost the ability to tell the difference? I think we are confusing dreams and ideology with reality in a lot of very applied things.
- madmax108 5y agoHonestly, I personally feel that the pandemic-led flooding of $$$ into the markets (led of course by the US Fed) has led to a lot of financial experiments like crypto, SPACs etc. succeeding beyond wildest expectations (at least for long enough) creating "economics thought leaders" out of people who espouse them, who then go on to espouse their cockamamie, naive ideas onto the rest of society, since their rationale is that they "understand" some aspect of human society better. Spoiler alert: They very very rarely do. And when the market as a whole corrects, I'd expect a lot of this babble to quiet down (Remember Chamath?). "In a bull market, everyone is a genius"
- jollybean 5y agoIn a bull market, the craziest person with the loudest horn is the biggest genius.
