The lender is incentivized to make sure you do it so they will let you know when you didn't do it right. Otherwise if it's an error, often it can lead to a legal error in your favor so long as it's not something the bank can call the loan due because of an honest clerical error. The real irony here is that Ontarians are being taught how to buy a home. It's like a class in the US teaching kids how to prep being a famous twitch streamer.
