Of course we'll survive there is no scientific basis for apocalyptic alarmist nonsense that says "heed thee the end is nigh because you drive a car".
There may be other reasons to switch to different energy sources but some environmental apocalypse is not it.
- ehnto 5y agoThe climate will be changing, there is plenty of science supporting that. It doesn't take much change to push a lot of places into unlivable territory, it doesn't have to be apocalyptic to cause immense instability. If temperatures keep trending upward where I live I don't plan to stick around, it's already peaking at 50c.
- adrianN 5y ago"We" will almost certainly survive. Whether that also includes me or you is a completely different question. Famine, wars, natural disasters etc are quite likely.
- XorNot 5y agoOr just plain old financial destruction: the US government isn't bailing out anyone who's house is on it's way to being inundated by rising sea levels, it sure isn't going to expand that non-existent program when it hits low lying coastal areas which discover they're suddenly vulnerable to storm surges. Guess who wants to buy land you can't live on: nobody.
- throwaway0a5e 5y agoIf you follow the news in the kinds of places that are washing into the sea you'll note that many of these people and towns have been very successful in getting the state to bail them out or at least spend stupid money delaying the inevitable.
- LatteLazy 5y agoI'm not saying civilisation will end or ALL humans will die out. I'm saying expect famines in places that are currently breadbaskets. Ditto floods, droughts, hurricanes, plagues, heart waves etc. You may well die in any of these, lots of people do, it's very popular and no one expects it to happen to them... So maybe move way from the coast and to higher ground, get an air conditioner, stay in shape and take weather warnings seriously. If I actually thought civilisation or the species were going to end, it wouldn't make sense to do anything except maybe party till its over...
