Promoting uniform official language is a perfectly fine state policy with a tonn of benefits, including costs reduction, economic integration improvements, increased social and workforce mobility.
CCP crimes are countless, but existing of such policy is clearly not one of them.
Questions could and should be asked in regard to tools and apparatus used in such transition, for example repressions, violence and forced re-education. IF they were used.
- creshal 5y ago> Promoting uniform official language is a perfectly fine state policy Ask the Slovenians, Finns or Poles about that. The upper class of Imperial Russia, Germany and Austria-Hungary obviously had tons of benefits from trying to forcibly erase their culture, and turn them into help- and cultureless drones that could be poured into whatever machine needed to be fed. It also had the downsides of, yknow, almost wiping out entire cultures, followed by bloody rebellions and wars of independence. Plus, well, a world war or two. Wonderful for the economy!
- YouthfulMarxism 5y ago> Helpless and culturless drones. What a fine definition for a whole nation of United State of America, modern Germany, France, etc. At this point you should already be tired to substitute culture with a language.
- creshal 5y agoFrance! Of all the nations, you pick the one that aggressively defines culture and language as identical, and acts like it to the point of being insufferable. You truly have no idea what you're talking about, do you?
- YouthfulMarxism 5y agoNow lets pretend that Germany and USA wasn't in the same sentence. > Helpless and culturless drones. Please repeat this sentence about people of France.
- dang 5y agoWould you please stop posting unsubstantive and/or flamebait comments to HN and please not use HN for ideological or political battle? Those things destroy the type of site we're trying for here, so we ban accounts that do them. If you wouldn't mind reviewing https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html and taking the intended spirit more to heart, we'd be grateful. Edit: actually your account has been doing these things so overwhelmingly that I've banned it for now. I hate to ban an account that posted a good comment like https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26421426 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26421426, but when the rate is that low we have little choice. If you don't want to be banned, you're welcome to email hn@ycombinator.com and give us reason to believe that you'll follow the rules in the future. They're here: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html.
- YouthfulMarxism 5y agoThank you for making HN a better place. Sorry, that i added a work for you. I'll try to be a person with less flame.
- dang 5y agoPlease don't post in the flamewar style to HN. We ban that sort of account. Fortunately you don't appear to have a history of that, but please don't go there here. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- calyth2018 5y agoI mean hell, English is Lingua Franca. How many people chatting about this on HN didn't actually have English as the first language? I certainly am not. I visited Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark and Norway in one go, and never felt that language was a barrier, because everyone can communicate via English.
- lugged 5y agoIt's perfectly fine if it's your language. How would you like it if someone suddenly said you can't speak English anymore?

- ParoxysmalVigor 5y agoThis paragraph has addressed methods: > Questions could and should be asked in regard to tools and apparatus used in such transition, for example repressions, violence and forced re-education. IF they were used. English is not my first language, i was incredibly happy to learn it in my childhood, thanks to all the great old games (SeaLegends, SpaceQuest, Daggerfall, Fallout). Internet and technical literature motivated me to improve later. Though, i still very lacking.
