Building a webhook system using Ruby on Rails and Sidekiq
- ezekg 5y agoI recently hit a milestone of 250 million webhook events processed, so I figured a blog post was in order on how I built my webhook system.
- albertgoeswoof 5y agoFantastic article. Webhooks are one of those things that seem easy, but clearly extend to significant complexity in short order
- ezekg 5y agoThanks for the kind words. :)
- gmanis 5y agoThis is fabulous. I had a webhook based service developed that I never launched. The write-up gave me a good push to maybe resurrect it. Can you tell me what kind of infrastructure is this hosted on? It’s not trivial to be able to handle 250Mn (yearly?) and I’d love some insight.
- ezekg 5y agoAppreciate it. It's hosted on Heroku. The workers autoscale, with a baseline of 2 standard-1X worker dynos. Aside from the occasional problem endpoint causing a ruckus, it's hasn't been too hard handling that traffic. The total of 250MM has been over the past 5 years, with the majority of that number being over the last 2 years as I've grown to larger customers with higher volume.
