> If you work hard, you will be successful
Unless you were born to neglecting parents or went to a shitty school or learned the wrong major (arts major anyone?) or chose a low paying job (schoolteachers in the house?) or had something bad happen to your health or a million other possibilities. Or maybe your parents are super cool, the school was nice but your cognitive abilities are just not right for the high paying jobs (most high paying jobs require high cognitive abilities like finance, software, medicine) and you are working as a car mechanic (don't get me wrong, it's an awesome career but not likely to be viewed as "successful" the same way you mean it).
Actually the equation "work hard = success" is quite ridiculous. Do you think Uber drivers don't work hard? Shop clerks? Construction workers? Nurses ? Teachers ? Where is this idea even coming from?
