Seriously every remotely modern empire which has fallen has done so by fighting wars that didn't need fought and commiting travesties which were the root of their downfall. World War 1 ended ruling royals by fighting wars everybody already knew would be disastrous but thought nobody would be stupid enough to fight because it would be disastrous to the intertwined powerhouses.
