No it was never the right choice and it didn't need to become standardized at first place. Writing a query builder is an easy task, implementing a RDBMS on top of indexedDB, ironically implemented on top of SQlite in Firefoxis a much harder tasks. IndexedDB is absolutely atrocious API wise, and largely useless to query structured data.
