I find this hilarious. Mostly because theres a surprise factor involved. Who else was a late teen or older during the Bush Jr gas spikes? What happened to the price of everything that had to travel on a road or track? I mean, it really pissed me the fuck off how the media and lots of idiots here were arguing a year or two ago when gas was low, "well you know, when gas prices are too low, it's bad for the economy". STFU. To me, everyone is reaping what they sowed on this one. Fine, kill all future oil dev. I get it. I agree actually (well more to a phase out actually rather than abrupt cut so we can avoid this situation). At the same time, nothing is free. The price of oil will go up, which is what you technically wanted. The price of transpo goes up. The price of goods goes up (especially plastics and other petrol products). The purchasing power of the middle to lower class goes down. Happens each and every single time and everyone with an econ PhD on the news, "OMG this was unforseeable". The ability for the masses to transition to EV goes down too. Which slows that whole plan down as well. Hey, at least we'll get another housing bubble hopefully. Investors and retail investors will try using real estate to keep up with inflation. They'll keep flipping houses until no one can afford them, then it collapses. Hopefully I'll be in a prime spot to pounce on it. Keep pumping up those gas prices people. Once enough investors see oil as a good investment again, $150 a barrel will look like a wetdream.
