Pay Attention to ‘Made in China’
- zepto 5y ago> Remember that the forced laborers are creating products for purchase by American consumers. This seems like dissembling. Why single out “American” here? > Pang’s book lists some of the brands and companies that reportedly draw on Chinese forced labor: Apple, Nike, BMW, Volkswagen, Muji, and Uniqlo Here they list 2 American companies, 2 German companies, and 2 Japanese companies. Which contradicts the notion that this is has something to do with “American Consumers” in particular. This is a group of international companies supplying consumers in many countries. As for Apple, I don’t expect them to be able to say anything serious about the Uighur situation until they have reduced their dependence on China for manufacturing, which will probably take a decade to accomplish. As far as I can see, this situation was created by European and American policy makers who mistakenly expected China to become less oppressive as it was integrated into global trade.
