We can only guess why users flag things, but in this case it's pretty easy to guess - just read the first part of the site guidelines: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html."
- rsj_hn 5y agoNot really sure how Israeli politics is relevant to hacker news, TBH. It seems very niche and unrelated to what most people come to this site for. Guillermo Lasso just won in Ecuador, but I wouldn't think of posting that article here, either.
- yumraj 5y agoContrary to popular brief HN readers care about things other than the latest JS framework. Israel, despite its size, has an oversized impact on world politics as well is home to a great tech scene. Especially when compared to Ecuador.
- alentist 5y agoHN readers care about lots of things. That doesn't mean they're all on-topic. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html On-Topic: Anything that good hackers would find interesting. That includes more than hacking and startups. If you had to reduce it to a sentence, the answer might be: anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity. Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.
