Raspberry Pi IRC Server: Setup Your Own Chat Network
- luke2m 5y agoMost setup x on raspberry pi guides really mean setup x on debian.
- analog31 5y agoIndeed, I use them almost interchangeably. When I'm trying to do something on my Ubuntu box, I often find that the RPi crowd has blogged about what I'm trying to do. And vice versa.
- jeroenhd 5y agoI find the RPi tutorials great for tools and concepts I'm not familiar with, because the RPi blogs are often written for beginners. Debian is often more detailed and verbose, requiring more background knowledge and explaining more of the surrounding systems (which are a good thing if you're planning on deploying something in production). There's a few exemptions though; Broadcom's incompatibilities, special bootloader setup and the Pi's deviating kernel headers sometimes make the guides not work for x86-based systems.
- remirk 5y agoI have a different experience. Mostly I find articles specifically written for 'Raspberry Pi' of lower quality than articles that talk about Debian. A lot of Raspberry Pi tutorials tell you to just run these commands without explaining why or what is the consequence. That leads to all kinds of bad practises like 'curl | sudo bash' or configurating services without auth.
- nceasy 5y agoI can' stress enough how much I love raspberry pi, from hobby to professional use cases
- Krisando 5y agoSounds like an excellent way to get away from Freenode and Libera dramadmins.
