Skipping a Docker Desktop update is not free
- mariusseufzer 5y agoI just opened the Docker Desktop app... Was really surprised when I saw that I can't skip the update without the Pro subscription... Seriously??
- jhickok 5y agoIt looks like you can just snooze it, but apparently it will continue to nag you: >Free users will not be required to install any particular update, but they will continue to get reminders to update. https://www.docker.com/blog/changing-how-updates-work-with-docker-desktop-3-3/ https://www.docker.com/blog/changing-how-updates-work-with-d... Super weird.
- monkeybutton 5y agoAh yes I swear that stupid popup was waiting for me every morning when I started work. These type nagging tactics are what I expect from the likes of WinRAR, not something from a company that has taken millions in venture funding.
- wmf 5y agoThis was discussed extensively on HN and has been rolled back: https://www.docker.com/blog/volume-management-compose-v2-skipping-updates-and-more-in-docker-desktop-3-4/ https://www.docker.com/blog/volume-management-compose-v2-ski... (scroll down)
- mariusseufzer 5y agoInteresting! Glad they reverted it.
- kobalsky 5y agowhat a pathetic and desperate cash grab. good thing that the container space is getting de-dockerized, these guys are folding. when is oracle buying these guys?
- schoolornot 5y agoDocker Inc. reeks like the SCO or port-Oracle Sun of our current generation. A very tacky move to what, make them a quick buck?
- FearlessNebula 5y agoIsn’t Docker Desktop borderline Spyware?
- mariusseufzer 5y agoWhat do you mean?
- WFHRenaissance 5y agoWe already got mad about this last month.
- markfive 5y agoSkipping Chrome and Windows 10 updates also not free.
