Trump DOJ Seized House Democrats' Data from Apple
- roenxi 5y agoOh, wow, the executive is using their power to invade privacy for political ends. This is a shocking and unforeseen development. Nobody foresaw this or pointed out it was a likely outcome of the trends in computing and intelligence gathering. Fortunately the politicians involved had nothing to hide. It isn't even obvious this is going to be unusual in the future. The next right wing candidate will no doubt be suspected of being [insert fig leaf] and in need of attention. The intelligence apparatus will turn out to be involved too, at some point. The only answer is less government power and more privacy.
- wodenokoto 5y agoI feel like this level of sarcasm falls under the “don’t be snarky” guideline and I guess this is why other users have downvoted you.
- loopz 5y agoSuch comments are obvious, boring and doesn't engender good discussion.
- roenxi 5y ago(1) Making assumptions about why other users are doing anything is a risky game. I personally have a policy of never downvoting anything because the message is too ambiguous. The one exception is posts that say "I know this will get downvoted" because that seems satisfying to all parties. (2) There is nothing here to discuss, this is water-is-wet levels of scandal for the Trump presidency. It is water-is-wet levels of scandal for the executive government. It has been argued to death since pre-PATRIOT Act that the willingness and ability of the government to harvest information was dangerous. If HN wants to discuss something, I suppose the question could be "what is going to have to happen for this sort of thing not to be routine?" or "how much worse will it be for people on the edges of the political sphere trying to make the arduous journey into the centre". The fact that politicians are spying on each other is non-news. The NSA is spying on literally everyone. Congresspeople are also anyone.
