This is good article though it actually didn’t made any sense in terms of job. There are companies that value good documentation, you will have to write docs to keep your job. And there are companies that don’t care about documentation. By writing documentation, you are wasting your company’s time and money on something that is not important to them. This will not get you promoted but it may get you fired.
You want documentation as a priority, then champion it to your leadership. Show them data that documentation saves cost in long run. But writing docs by yourself is not a good strategy for long term success of your career.
This brings me to my second point, I agree with author if you replace quitting job with dying.
What if a doctor tells you that you have two weeks to live. Will you go do all the things that you always dreamt about or would you be talking with lawyers to get your will and estate in order. Do you have enough life insurance? Are you saving for your family and kids?
If you have taken care of your affairs, now if doctor tells you that you got two weeks left, are you going to rush to work and finish your project or just quit? Are you going to spend next 2 weeks with your kids or go on a long hike? Or something else? Do you do any of that right now?
Yes I want to live my life as if I am always be dying.
