Apple Podcasts says it’ll launch in-app subscriptions globally on June 15th
- jfengel 5y agoI think this is great. I hope other podcast apps start supporting a similar protocol. Perhaps they could connect directly in the app to a Patreon feed. I think a fair number of people would pay small amounts of money for a podcast, but even the tiniest bit of friction will reduce that number. The payment system is also friction, but if people could centralize on one or two systems (like Apple and Patreon), then they could reduce it to "You've already signed up, just click this button to throw $1 per episode at these guys." My "podcast bill" is about $30 a month, all of it voluntary. I consider it a bargain for the over 100 hours of podcasts I download per month. (I don't throw money at all of them. Many are entirely ad-supported.)
