- _rs 5y agoSorry how does this article address this at all?
- scotuswroteus 5y agoThank you for your question
- rejectedandsad 5y agoEven if they do them they’re extremely unlikely to be significant
- warkdarrior 5y agoAfter you move to a low COL area, you are really at their mercy, no?
- ed25519FUUU 5y agoA year ago? Sure. Now the market for remote engineers is competitive. I basically eliminated my mortgage by selling and moving. My salary can go way down without affecting my living standards.
- warkdarrior 5y agoActually at that point you are at the mercy of the local ISP.
- tgsovlerkhgsel 5y agoStarlink conveniently solves that problem.
- ed25519FUUU 5y agoYou probably already know this but internet outside of the Bay Area is actually really good. We live in the sticks and we can get gigabit.
- warkdarrior 5y agoSure, my point is that ISPs will start increasing their rates to squeeze more out of remote workers.
- edmundsauto 5y agoMy ISP (Comcast) emailed me yesterday with a 33% speed boost, for free. They just redefined the tier to be 800Mbps instead of 600. This anecdote does not invalidate your prediction, but the correct prediction is "we don't know" rather than stating your point with such certainty. Can they? Sure. Have they indicated as such? No.
- kookiekrak 5y agopay adjustments have already been known for over a year, its not some secret. its to -15% to places like hawaii, -10% to miami, -5% to seattle/LA, or 0% to nyc its based on cost of acquisition of labor in the region, not cost of living as you can see from hawaii
