Trusting a proprietary app for your lights was a shitty idea.
- cyanydeez 5y agothere are alternatives to hue. but we should still critique an apps whose only existence stems from the product its connected to. the app is an extension of the light bulbs, it does not exist as some independent entity. unless you know some means to opensource led bulbs. everyone who owns those bulbs has a right to expect any updates to no remove functionality
- tomduncalf 5y agoIt's a fair point, and actually the protocol is open (AFAIK) and there are alternative apps. But it's an interesting thing to consider IMO - removing features from a cheap/free app is one thing, but when users have invested hundreds or thousands in the ecosystem, is taking away functionality a reasonable thing to do?
