This kind of functionality is just not reliable enough without LIDAR ala Tango, which it was originally built for. An AR utility that is 90% reliably accurate has a massive gulf of usability from one that is 99% reliably accurate. By the time I accept my camera just won't understand the dimensions of my couch or won't accept that the crown molding is attached to the wall, I could have grabbed the tape. And if I only realize my 15 foot measurement had a 3 inch margin of error after the living room set arrives I am not going to be a happy customer.
I've been pretty curious to see what's going to happen next for Android AR. Apple is investing in LIDAR on their devices, and a lot of AR devices like the RealWare headset are built on Android. But it seems like mobile phone Android AR stalled after Tango (and Tango technology wasn't actually adopted by the platform, so it really stalled before Tango).
