Always Be Quitting
- throw737858 5y ago》making yourself replaceable”; “deprecating yourself”; “automating yourself out of your job” That is horrible advice. How about: You quit, and get hired back at 5x rate as consultant, because nobody understands the system. It is not your job to fix broken management!!
- Bostonian 5y agoThe programmers who visit this site are ambitious, and the advice in this post may be good for them. I wonder if the advice is good for less-ambitious developers who want to stay at their current employer for a long time. I have often read about programmers who were asked to train their replacements before being replaced.
- ahuth 5y agoI didn't read the advice as literally get yourself replaced. I think it's more of think about your value as how you work with others, influence an entire organization, and what you can get done together. Your value isn't about silo-ing knowledge. When viewed that way, it could be good advice for anyone.
