Executive order on protecting Americans’ sensitive data from foreign adversaries
- jl2718 5y agoThis is literally just revoking Trump’s cyber security actions against TikTok, WeChat, and Huawei, and ordering agencies to deliver a report in 180 days.
- TurkishPoptart 5y agoMy thoughts exactly. I've skimmed over this and the only real "action" here is repealing those three actions made under the Trump administration, but not replacing them with anything. Sure, it seems rather myopic to ONLY consider TikTok, WeChat, and Huawei when it comes to protecting Americans' personal information (much of which has already been leaked and is for sale on the dark web, sadly) something more comprehensive is in order.
- stevenicr 5y agoI agree - we could use much broader protections codified in law vs all those who would surreptitiously capture and use data. and ironlicaly I guess, re " it seems rather myopic to ONLY consider TikTok, WeChat, and Huawei when it comes to protecting Americans' personal information" ... while I don't think it was true at the time of the previous admin's order - didn't TikTok come out and say they are starting to store people's voice prints and other biometric data for other future use? https://techcrunch.com/2021/06/03/tiktok-just-gave-itself-permission-to-collect-biometric-data-on-u-s-users-including-faceprints-and-voiceprints/ https://techcrunch.com/2021/06/03/tiktok-just-gave-itself-pe... It's almost like they pull the order just to let that go through - it's like the order to make it anti-myopic or something.
