I want to add other reason: It's astronomically expensive and really slow to grow. TSMC started in 1987, and AFAIK, the government of Taiwan invest in the company to help their grow. EU started some years ago, investing in R&D in this sector, some years ago. We need to wait at least a decade to see a real impact starting to grow with this initiatives.
