I Will Not Eat the Bugs
- premium-komodo 5y agoSpeaking very plainly, the only reason anyone is even talking about eating bugs is that it's yet another idea that busybody leftists have for other people to do. Klaus Schwab isn't going to be eating bugs, he's going to be eating Kobe beef. He's not going to live in a pod, that's for you and other little people. He's not going to give up air travel. How would he get to Davos to give another speech about his reimagining of society, or the economy, or whatever else? It's for you to give up air travel, not the important people. All of this "reimagining" is ostensibly to save the world, when most objective metrics of human well-being already show we already are saving the world. Cram it.
- jokethrowaway 5y agoThat's an interesting moral quandary. Just because insects are smaller / less complex living beings, do they matter less? If we translate that to humans, does that make killing a skinny young baby more acceptable than killing a fat adult? It seems like society deems killing an insect is better than killing an animal which is better than killing an human being you don't know in a remote country which is better than killing a human near you. Our morality is definitely heavily based on what is convenient to us - with an extra layer on top because of our societal reputation system. It's interesting to see how people feel instinctive repulsion which seems to contain this rational societal considerations. Killing an insect means I can't look at a tiny animal. Almost nobody will judge me for killing an insect. Killing an animal means I can't look at a bigger, more entertaining animal. I may be judged if I kill an animal, based on the animal. Killing a human from another tribe won't change the opinion most of the people in my tribe have of me. Killing a human from my tribe will change the opinion most of the people in my tribe have of me.
