Stephen Wolfram continues to shy away from the understating, unexagerrating language that is the norm in the best technical, scientific literature.
His writing is dominated by the I pronoun, and he keeps creating these complex sentences just to make sure it is clear that it was him who thought about that, and he concluded it, and it is his contribution, only he saw the connection, etc.
IMO this is distracting from the ideas themselves, for what they're worth.
- bluepoint 5y agoI love the contradiction that you put between “shy away” and the rest of the comment.
- okareaman 5y agoI've been following him here and there for over 20 years. If I recall correctly, people who have worked with him, or at least those willing to comment, say he has some kind of ego disorder. They just accept that about him.
- lupire 5y ago"The SI unit of ego is the milliwolfram."
- sjg007 5y agoThe dude is smart and a billionaire. Most scientists dismiss other scientists for their cranky nonconformism all the time. Scientists are the most "not invented here" (NIH) type of folks ever unless they can get a grant to study it. So he publishes his own books and has theories.. he also has an army of smart PhDs working for him. There's no reason to discount his work scientifically. Yes he can subvert normal publication venues AND he can work on what he wants but so what. Doesn't make that any less interesting.
- okareaman 5y agoHe's very smart and has interesting ideas and has made a successful career. It's possible to point out someone's quirks while still admiring them.
