DApps being developed on existing blockchains instead of new blockchains being invented for each use case. The only reason L2 blockchains are even so big (e.g. Matic) is because of Ethereum's insane gas fees and the never ending delays in rolling out Eth2. Otherwise there'd be no real need to even have L2 blockchains, you can just run your smart contract directly on the L1 blockchain if it's efficient enough to scale properly.
