The Upcoming Remote Work Company Culture War
- subw00f 5y agoIt's not about the same people working for the same company anymore. Remote-first orgs can now hire from far bigger pools of candidates for less money overall, possibly keeping the same quality/time of deliveries. For me, it looks like a classic case of equilibrium price moving because the supply of something has increased, in this case, workers. What this bigot fails to realize is that while in her sheltered part of the globe the "white techies" will see their wages moving down towards the equilibrium, the rest of us "non-white techies", especially in third world countries, will see our wages moving up to reach it. It's happening already. I live in a poor Brazilian state, 1/3 of my colleagues switched to remote jobs for companies abroad in the last year, 1/3 are now simply working for companies elsewhere in the country that pays more. But anyway, maybe once she stops hiding behind pregnancy, insomnia, and her bigotry towards a particular skin color to push her outdated perspective on worker-company relations down her employees throats, we can have one more person in a position of power working to improve it.
