Most developers believe blockchain technology is a game changer
- jqpabc123 5y agoJudging from this survey, most developers are just about clueless. The problem with block chain is how to sustain interest and participation in hosting it. If a large corporation or government hosts it or pays to host it, the block chain is really kinda pointless --- call it what you want but it's really just another hosted, single entity solution. If public participation is not sufficiently diverse and widespread, the block chain becomes vulnerable to take over or attack. The only practical solution found thus far is to create funds out of electrons (cryptocurrency) in order to encourage and reward participation. Effectively, it is a solution looking for a problem --- and about the only working problem found thus far is cryptocurrency. And the long term future of this is questionable. All of which explains why Microsoft and IBM have shutdown their block chain operations. This would appear to register them firmly in the "hype" category.
- smt88 5y agoI take none of Stack Overflow's surveys seriously. Their audience is not representative at all. It's skewed heavily toward people who are newer to coding or just trying to get through a bootcamp. Also, their question was classically badly designed: the choices were "all hype" or "game changer", two extremes without any hint of nuance. Let's not let this marketing disguised as data spark the flamewar that SO obviously wants it to.
