At least for our german-speaking users Dr. Drosten will be a household name already as he has been something like the public voice of reason during the pandemic. For others who do not know him yet: he is a German virologist and leading the virology department of the Charité hospital in Berlin. His area of research is novel viruses and he has got a long history of researching coronaviruses. For example he was the first to develop a test for SARS-Cov-1 in 2003 and his group also developed a (the first?) PCR test for SARS-Cov-2 in january of last year already.
