Built-to-Rent Suburbs Are Poised to Spread Across the U.S.
- silexia 5y agoRental homes in the suburbs is a fantastic idea. I loved living in an apartment building where the manager took care of all the landscape upkeep, plumbing, electrical, and all other repairs. That allowed me to freely focus all my time on my business and my hobby rock climbing.
- diebeforei485 5y agoRental single-family units often have lease language that requires tenants to take care of mowing the lawn, raking the leaves, snow plowing etc, so it may not necessarily be much of a time saver.
- cko 5y agoIn my past life as a landlord, I bought a few townhome units in various Texas suburbs. I think it was profitable because it's hard to screw up buying any asset in the early 2010s. The thing I didn't like about being a landlord was the mental overhead. Yes it was almost completely turnkey and passive, as I had a property manager, but there were these large rent checks coming in and almost as large mortgage payments going out. I wish I just bought equities and stuff, really. Though I do think big long mortgages at low interest rates are great, especially if inflation is projected this decade. If I were to buy a house again, it would probably be a rural thing rented out on Airbnb. And keep my debt to income ratio low.
- diveanon 5y agoIf handling rent payments made you wish for equities then airbnb may not be for you. I stopped doing airbnb because of the constant minor issues and damages caused by tenants. It is much easier to just rent.
- diebeforei485 5y agoLots of single-family units are already rented out. This is really no big deal. Not everyone wants to buy and be tied down to where they live.
- delfinom 5y ago>Economic forces and generational preferences are leading to a new kind of housing I assure that these generational preferences were forced upon the generation by the older ones
