I have been lucky to visit some of the camps in Auschwitz during a high-school trip about 15 years ago. It's quite hard to describe how it feels to be in such a place. Since we were guided, I could understand quite a lot of it, but otherwise I think it would be difficult to realize the horrors that went on here. The most striking is the sheer size of it. Especially when you enter Birkenau, you only see a range of buildings as far as the horizon.
