I agree with this so much and I have my own blog already. It's hard to come up with unique content and I think my writing excels when I'm replying to something - when someone else has written something and I feel like I can contribute to the conversation. I guess I could link things I want to reply to in my blog, sort of like Daring Fireball, but without an existing readership it seems really lame to try to force it when I can reply in an HN or Twitter comment instead.
