Amazing documentary about taking the first picture of a black hole
- belter 5y agoIt is not a picture
- DerekL 5y agoIn what way is it not a picture?
- belter 5y agoIt is data massaged to create a synthetic representation with a "color" chosen by scientists who then spread around the word its a photo. Even the president of the Max Planck institute one of the most respected German institutions called it a picture. Did you notice it was made with radio telescopes ? Do they take pictures ? If I take radar measurements of big asteroid coming close to earth and you represent its elevations and valleys do you call it a picture ? They even choose the colors.... I plan to download the data make a new "picture" with a bright green orange and wait for them to tell me why the color in my "picture" is incorrect...
- jonplackett 5y agoThe end result is still a picture
- eucryphia 5y agoI watched it recently and enjoyed seeing the young people involved enjoying the excitement of being part of something big. I also enjoyed the Japanese Samurai and Carribean pirate documentaries, I hope Netflix makes a few more.
- jonplackett 5y agoThat’s what really struck me too - just seeing how excited they were. It made me think we really need to protect and encourage more people to love science that much!
- WalterGR 5y agoDoesn't work for people who don't have Netflix accounts or aren't logged in. It's also streaming elsewhere. https://www.blackholefilm.com/ https://www.blackholefilm.com/ is a better link.
