Don't even bother with this list if you live in Europe. Even a waiting staff with zero education makes more money in Europe than a software developer. So if you lose your job, you will be glad making more money and have more fun contacting other people than sitting all day long at a desk for a penny.
- astrange 5y agoFAANGs/multinationals have offices in Europe. Even more rarely they have them in Asia/Oceania. Outside that, the happy developers I know are self employed as consultants or own app businesses. There’s also video game studios around the world in many places other software companies don’t exist. I think this is a very interesting trend but not sure if it pays well.
- pavlov 5y agoGame development mostly pays quite poorly in comparison to other software eng, especially when considering the stress level of typical expected unpaid overtime. It’s a buyer’s market: companies have their pick because so many people are passionate about the field. (You could be a gaming millionaire by e.g. being a very early employee at a studio with a casual mobile gaming hit ten years ago, but those are definitely exceptions.)
