Show HN: Text Messaging for All Platforms
- soheil 5y ago* Please note this is a work in progress and please make sure you understand the security implications before using. The idea is to have one place to communicate with all your contacts on various platforms. You can send and receive messages to your contacts on Facebook, Twitter, Slack, Telegram, etc. all as if you're sending a text to one of your phone contacts without needing to install an app (it also works with old feature phones.) Once you connect your various accounts a list of new contacts is sent to your phone to add to your existing contacts. This includes your friends' avatars and an icon in the bottom right corner to indicate which social media platform they're from. This is implemented on top of Matrix, using modified bridges to push messages to the backend server. We would love to receive any feedback and possible ways to improve this. Currently you must login or provide your cookies to different platforms to use this service. This is a major downside that we're working on fixing, any suggestions would be welcome. Is this something you would use? What are some of the use cases you can think of (personal/professional)?
- skinnymuch 5y agoIs there a reason for choosing Matrix bridges over Mattermost? I don’t fully understand the pros cons for either.
- mutant 5y agoFeels absolutely scammy, shows lots of connectors on homepage, only 2 "work". Nice harvesting
- skinnymuch 5y agoHis social media links don't make it seem like he's harvesting. At least whatever he is doing likely isn't going to be worse than what major tech and non tech companies already do. But again without knowing the person, I'm doubting this is about harvesting. Though asking straight up for FB login is a lot though especially without any info for users. I tried to give it an app password. But neither my own side account real PW or app password worked. Also. It's using Matrix bridges as his message says.
