Finding a good solution and rejecting a bad solution is the same thing, both are positive steps towards the goal. In science this happens a lot. Some research is generated using a flawed procedure. Someone writes a paper criticising the procedure and demonstrating that it doesn't work. The procedure is abandoned and the critique saves a lot of scientific effort and funds from being wasted on empty pursuits. This is a big positive.
