Anecdotally it seems like a big part of the reluctance to go back to the office relates to comfort, flexibility, autonomy and the nature of knowledge work.
Not having to dress up or commute, sleeping in an extra hour, taking breaks without anxiety, having access to more comfortable quieter environments l, etc all seem to fall under the comfort category.
Dealing with kids’ schedules and working out of more cost efficient and safer locations is a gain in flexibility.
I know several people who don’t really work 9-5 at all anymore. They mostly log on at 10 answer all communications and send some of their own. Do some exercise and eat around 1pm. Work another 4 hours stop to spend time with kids and family then have dinner and do another 2 hours before bed. That autonomy is nice to have.
